While we prefer glass, we found it was too fragile during shipment. Which created waste and repeat shipments, with all the environmental impact that entails.

But there’s good news: All the bottles in our current lineup are made with a blend of recycled and new bio-PET, also known as a bioresin.

Bioresins are a type of plastic that’s 100% plant-based. Ours is derived from feed-stock byproduct. This keeps petroleum-based plastics out of the supply, recycle, and refuse chains.

And while glass has been a standard in packaging for hundreds of years, many sustainability experts doing full lifecycle impact analyses on various materials point to bioresin plastic as a more friendly alternative for the environment.

We're also a Public Benefit Corporation. That's a legal designation written into the bylaws of the company that helps us prioritize our social and environmental impact beyond profit.

Here are a few of the ways that switching to bioresins has helped us here at Big Bold Health fulfill our pledge to care for people, plants, and the planet:

• Lighter shipment weights. We’re reducing our carbon footprint everywhere we can.

• No toxic plasticizers, like phthalates and parabens, that can leach into products.

• No BPA or other petroleum-based chemicals that can leach into products.

• The energy consumption to create, transport, and recycle plastic is 50% less than glass.

• Glass recycling must be done in part with virgin quartz-based beach sand. If you didn’t know, there’s a global sand shortage that’s contributing to coastal erosion.
